Who Do You Want to Be?


Who do you want to be? Well, obviously, you. That is the correct answer. Because, being you is the most awesomely wonderful thing ever. You are unique. You are special. You bring something to this world that no one else can… ever.

But, I know I’m always looking to improve. None of us are perfect. And, really, is there even such a thing as perfect??? …that is another topic for another day. Let’s talk about how you can get just a little bit better today.

I see people in the world, and there are certain things about them that just draw me to them. I started thinking, “I want to be just like them.” But, that isn’t really true. I want to be me… AND, it would be really cool if I could be like that one part of them that makes me feel so good when I hang out with them.

Now, of course, I don’t mean I wish I could be 5’8” like . Because, that isn’t going to happen. I’m 5’4”, and that is tall enough for me.

I’m talking about how I feel around certain people. I feel curious when I talk to Jenn. I feel calm and peaceful when I talk to Christina. I feel included when I talk to Whitney. I feel energized when I talk to Susie.

I would love to give off some of that good energy that those people share with me. How can I make that happen?

  1. Be aware. 

What is it about that person that makes me feel that way? Identify what it is in their behavior that you appreciate. Is it their tone of voice? Body language? Eye contact? Topic of discussion?

  1. Make it concrete for your brain.

Write down what you want to emulate and WHY you think it is an important skill. How will doing this make your life better?

  1. Practice the skill.

How can you practice that skill today? Should you stand in front of a mirror? Talk to yourself outloud? Practice with your mother?
